Will it work with my phone?

Every phone with a USB-C or USB-A cable can charge from the ONDO 20K. Magnetic wireless charging needs a phone with a magnetic ring, or a magnetic case on a phone that supports wireless charging.

Quick answer

Your phone Magnetic wireless Cable
iPhone 12 or later with a built-in magnetic ring Yes, bare or in a magnetic case Yes
iPhone in a plain case without magnets Weak hold; use the cable Yes
Android phone with wireless charging and a magnetic case or ring Yes Yes
Android phone with wireless charging, no magnets Only if held in place; use the cable Yes
Any phone without wireless charging No Yes

iPhone 12 and later

Apple added a ring of magnets behind the charging coil from iPhone 12 onwards, and its own support pages list the models that have it. The ONDO 20K lines up with that ring and charges the phone wirelessly. Not every model in every year is the same, so check your exact model on Apple’s support list if you are unsure. The magnetic charging guide explains how the ring works.

Magnetic cases and plain cases

A case with its own magnetic ring keeps the hold and the charge, because the magnets sit in line with the phone’s coil. A plain case without magnets puts distance between the power bank and the phone: the hold weakens, the power bank can slide out of line, and wireless charging slows or stops. Thick, rugged or wallet cases are the worst for this. In those cases, plug in the cable.

Android phones

Any Android phone with a USB-C port charges from the ONDO 20K over a cable, at up to 22.5 W as the manufacturer states it. For wireless charging, the phone itself must support wireless charging; a magnetic case or a stick-on magnetic ring then gives the power bank something to hold on to. A ring on a phone without wireless charging gives you the hold, but no charge.

15 W wireless vs 22.5 W wired

Both figures are the manufacturer’s maximums. The cable is faster and wastes less energy, so it is the better choice when you need charge quickly. The magnet is the more convenient choice when you want to keep using the phone. How much of the 15 W a phone actually accepts depends on the phone; we publish what we measure on real phones after testing.

The LED display

The display on the front shows the charge left in the power bank in per cent, so you know when to recharge it, without guessing from four dots.

Other devices

The USB-A port takes the older USB-A to Lightning or USB-A to USB-C cables, so earbuds, a watch charger or a second phone can charge from it over a cable. We have not tested other devices yet, so we make no claim about them.
